Now issuing 6-hrly updates (except 12:00 AM) on the newly-formed TD 98W (KIKO).


98W (KIKO) MAX WIND SPEED PER AGENCY:

  • Tropical Depression 98W (KIKO) newly-formed off the NE portion of the Philippine Sea, about a thousand miles ENE of Batanes...drifting West...may threaten Ryukyu Islands soon.

    *Residents and visitors along Ryukyu Islands and Southern Japan should closely monitor the progress of 98W (KIKO).

    *Kindly refer to your local warnings & bulletins issued by your country's official weather agency. This advisory is intended for additional information purposes only.


    + Forecast Outlook: 98W is expected to drift slowly West to WNW before turning northward towards Ryukyu Islands of Japan (Okinawa Area). More forecast outlook soon.

    + Effects: 98W's developing circulation remains broad over the Northern Philippine Sea. Rainfall accumulations of up to 200-300 mm can be expected within its circulation. At this moment, the system is not yet affecting any major land areas.

    + Current SW Monsoon Intensity: MODERATE >> Light to moderate southwesterly winds not in excess of 40 kph with passing occasional showers or rains can be expected along the following affected areas: PALAWAN, WESTERN VISAYAS, MINDORO, METRO MANILA, SOUTHERN & WESTERN LUZON, AND PARTS OF BICOL REGION. Possible landslides, mudslides, mudflows (lahars) and life-threatening flash floods are likely to occur along steep mountain/volcanic slopes, river banks, low-lying & flood-prone areas of the affected areas.
