MERANTI
(11W) has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm as it moves further inland across the Fujian Province of China. Tropical Storm Conditions will continue to prevail across the area today.

Due to the expected dissipation of this system within 24 hours, this will be the last and final advisory on MERANTI. Refer to your official local weather centers for continued updates.

Distance 2: 180 km (97 nm) NNE of Xiamen, China

ANALYSIS & FORECAST OUTLOOK (up to 24 hours)*

MERANTI will continue moving northward overland, across the rugged terrain of Fujian Province today and gradually weaken further. It will be downgraded into a depression late tonight and will eventually dissipate completely by tomorrow morning, while over Zhejiang Province [8PM SEP 10: 28.3N 118.8E @ 65kph...8AM SEP 11: 30.3N 119.4E @ 35kph].

Current Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) are near 95 km/hr (50 kts) with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Force Winds extend outward up to 65 kilometers (35 nautical miles) from the center.


*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Extended Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km on Day 3...450 km on Day 4...and 650 km on Day 5, while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed can be expected from time to time.

EFFECTS & HAZARDS

MERANTI's circulation now rapidly dissipating overland. Tropical Storm Conditions will continue to prevail throughout the morning across portions of Fujian Province. Improving weather expected tomorrow as its remnants moves north into Zhejiang Province. *TROPICAL STORM (TS) 11W (MERANTI), LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 365 NM
SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF SHANGHAI, CHINA, HAS TRACKED NORTHWARD AT 14
KNOTS OVER THE PAST SIX HOURS. A RADAR LOOP FROM TAIWAN AND ANIMATED
MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY (MSI) INDICATE TS 11W MADE LANDFALL
NEAR QUANZHOU, CHINA AROUND 09/21Z. THERE IS FAIR CONFIDENCE IN THE
CURRENT POSITION AND PAST SIX HOUR MOTION BASED ON MSI. THE CURRENT
INTENSITY IS BASED ON THE OVERALL WEAKENING CONVECTIVE SIGNATURE IN
A 092319Z AMSU MICROWAVE PASS AND IN THE TAIWAN RADAR LOOP. TS 11W
IS CURRENTLY TRACKING ALONG THE WESTERN EXTENT OF THE SUBTROPICAL
RIDGE STATIONED SOUTH OF JAPAN. THE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
TRACKING POLEWARD AS IT RAPIDLY DISSIPATES AS A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL
CYCLONE NEAR TAU 24, DUE TO INTERACTION WITH RUGGED TERRAIN ALONG
THE EASTERN COAST OF CHINA. THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE, THE SYSTEM MAY
TRACK NORTH OF SHANGHAI CHINA, AND REDEVELOP IN THE YELLOW SEA AS A
BAROCLINIC SYSTEM. NUMERICAL MODEL GUIDANCE IS IN GOOD AGREEMENT;
THEREFORE THIS FORECAST IS CLOSE TO MODEL CONSENSUS. THIS IS THE
FINAL WARNING ON THIS SYSTEM BY THE JOINT TYPHOON WARNING CENTER
(NAVMARFCSTCEN). THE SYSTEM WILL BE CLOSELY MONITORED FOR SIGNS OF
REGENERATION.
