Tropical Storm KHANUN (ENTENG) has made landfall over South Korea...weakening rapidly overland...expected to reach North Korea later today.

Residents and visitors along the Korean Peninsula should closely monitor the progress on Khanun (Enteng).

1-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK & ANALYSIS*

KHANUN (ENTENG) is expected to continue moving NE for the next 24 hours. On the forecast track, the core of KHANUN will pass close to Seoul this morning and over North Korea in the afternoon. By early Friday morning, KHANUN will be off the east coast of North Korea.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) are near 75 km/hr (40 knots) with higher gusts. KHANUN will continue losing strength within the next 12 to 24 hours.

Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-100 km/hr) extend outward up to 110 kilometers (60 nautical miles) from the center. KHANUN is a average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 390 kilometers (210 nautical miles).

The following is the summary of the 1-day forecast outlook on this system:

FRIDAY EARLY MORNING: Rapidly dissipating over the east coast of North Korea...no longer a Tropical Cyclone [2AM JUL 20: 39.9N 126.7E @ 35kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.


EFFECTS & HAZARDS SUMMARY

Below is the summary of the storm's parts and its hazards affecting specific areas:

INNER RAINBANDS - affecting and spreading across South Korea. Tropical Storm Conditions with Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-95 kph) will be expected along these bands.
OUTER RAINBANDS - affecting & spreading across the rest of the Korean Peninsula. Cloudy/Rainy Conditions w/ moderate to strong winds (<62 kph) will be expected along these bands (click here to know more about Rainbands).
24HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 50 mm (low to medium rainfall) can be expected along areas affected by the outer & inner rainbands (see above)...with isolated amounts of 51 to 100 mm (medium to high) along areas near the center of Khanun (Enteng). TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCH

Tropical Disturbance 92W (LPA) continues to consolidate while over the Philippine Sea. Various dynamic computer models continue to show the development into a Tropical Depression within the next 1 to 2 days. Its center was located about 673 km East of Casiguran, Aurora or 634 km NE of Naga City (16.3N 128.4E)...with maximum sustained winds of 30 kph and was moving West @ 15 kph towards Extreme Northern Luzon. The 24-hour TC Formation Potential remains at MEDIUM (30-50% Chance).
