Tropical Storm YAGI (DANTE) has gained strength as it moves farther away from the Philippine Sea...will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight
.

Residents and visitors along Southern Japan should closely monitor the development of YAGI (DANTE).

CURRENT STORM ANALYSIS

As of 12:00 noon today, the center of Tropical Storm Yagi (Dante) was located over the northeastern part of the Philippine Sea...about 708 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan or 1,254 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes...currently moving north-northeast with a forward speed of 19 km/hr in the general direction of the Sea South of Japan.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) have increased to 85 km/hr near the center with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-95 km/hr) extend outward up to 55 kilometers from the center. Yagi (Dante) is an average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 555 kilometers across. The 24-hour rainfall accumulation near the center of Yagi (Dante) is estimated to be heavy (310 mm).


3-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

TS Yagi (Dante) is expected to continue moving north-northeast during the next 24 to 36 hours, with a turn to the northeast or east-northeast between 48 to 72 hours. On the forecast track, the core of Yagi (Dante) will exit the PAR tonight and will be just along the open waters of the Northwest Pacific, south of Japan through Thursday noon.

Yagi (Dante) is forecast to still gain strength during the next 12 hours reaching a possible peak winds of 95 kph tonight or early Tuesday...but will start to weaken beginning Tuesday evening, dissipating into an area of low pressure on Thursday noon.

The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:

TUESDAY NOON: Already outside of the PAR...cruising across the open waters of the Northwest Pacific Ocean...about 667 km south of Tanabe, Japan [12PM JUN 11: 27.8N 135.4E @ 85kph].
WEDNESDAY NOON: Starts to weaken and decelerate while over the sea south of Japan...begins to move northeast to east-northeast...about 304 km south-southeast of Tanabe, Japan [12PM JUN 12: 31.2N 136.7E @ 65kph].
THURSDAY NOON: Dissipating over the Northwest Pacific Ocean...just an area of low pressure...about 442 km south-southwest of Tokyo, Japan [12PM JUN 13: 31.9N 138.3E @ 35kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.

INNER RAINBANDS - over water (NW Pacific Ocean). Affected Areas: None. Tropical Storm Conditions with Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-100 kph) will be expected along these bands.
OUTER RAINBANDS - spreading across the North Philippine Sea and Northwest Pacific Ocean. Affected Areas: None. Tropical Depression Conditions with light, moderate to strong winds (30-60 kph) will be expected along these bands (click here to know more about Rainbands).
24HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 200 mm (slight to heavy rainfall) can be expected along areas affected by the rainbands (see above)...with isolated amounts of 201 to 310 mm (heavy) along areas to the south and near the center of Yagi (Dante).
