TROPICAL STORM LINFA (EGAY) UPDATE NUMBER 013 [FINAL]

Tropical Storm LINFA (EGAY) has re-intensified while over the northern part of the South China Sea as it shifted its course to the northwest...slowly leaving the country.

This cyclone will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring occasional rains with moderate winds of 20-50 kph across the western provinces of Northern and Central Luzon tonight and tomorrow. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures against possible flashfloods or landslides.

Meanwhile, at 5:00 pm today, Typhoon CHAN-HOM was located some 1,423 km east of Santa Ana, Cagayan or about 1,465 km east-southeast of Basco, Batanes (18.4N 135.7E)... with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness up to 175 kph. It was moving West-Northwestward at 25 kph during the past 6 hours in the general direction of Northern Taiwan-Yaeyama-Ryukyus Area.

2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK

TS LINFA (EGAY) is expected to turn its course to the north-northwest during the next 24 hours...slightly accelerates as it shifts back to northwest on the remainder of the outlook period. On the forecast track, LINFA will be traversing Taiwan Strait on Wednesday (Jul 08) through Thursday (Jul 09)...making landfall along the coast of Shantou City, China in the morning.

TS LINFA (EGAY) will continue to regain strength within the next 24 through 36 hours...and shall rapidly weaken after making landfall over Southeastern China. The Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 10-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 95 kph by Wednesday afternoon (Jul 08).

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Re-intensifies further as it traverses Taiwan Strait...about 205 km southeast of Shantou City, China [2PM JUL 08: 22.2N 118.2E @ 95kph]. Confidence Level: HIGH.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON: Weakens after making landfall along the eastern coast of Guandong Province, China...about 85 km northwest of Shantou City, China [2PM JUL 09: 23.9N 116.1E @ 65kph]. Confidence Level: MEDIUM.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Dissipating into an area of Low Pressure Area over Northern Guandong, China...about 220 km northwest of Macau City, China [2PM JUL 10: 23.7N 112.1E @ 35kph]. Confidence Level: LOW.
