Current Status and Outlook

HAIMA is now a full-blown Typhoon as it continues to grow in size and strength…passing well to the north of  Yap in a slow northwesterly track.

This typhoon is forecast to enter the eastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday afternoon or evening (Oct 17) and will be named locally as "LAWIN."

Where is Haima?

As of 8:00 PM PhT today, October 16...1200 GMT.  The eye was located over the sea north of Western Micronesia (near 11.0N 138.8E), about 184 km north-northeast of Colonia, Yap (FSM) or 1,430 km east of Eastern Visayas, Philippines. 

How strong is it?

Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 130 kph near the center...Gustiness: 155 kph

Where is it heading?

It was moving NW @ 13 kph, towards the Central Philippine Sea.

Forecast Highlights

- Haima has the potential of becoming a Super Typhoon and could happen on Tue, Oct. 18.

- Haima is not yet a threat to the country for the next 2 days.

- Haima is forecast to enter PAR on Monday afternoon or evening, Oct 17.

- The 4 to 5-Day Forecast shows Haima passing very close or making landfall over Northern Cagayan on Thursday, Oct 20.  *This forecast is not yet considered final and changes in its forecast track is likely.
